Yesterday about 6am I took my dogs outside and looked up to notice how clear the dark morning sky was. As I was looking at the belt of Orion, I noticed a bright star speeding up from the southwest. Trailing it a few degrees behind was another bright star on the exact same path.
It was in fact the International Space Station being followed by the shuttle Discovery in orbit, being lit up by the pre-dawn sun. They had separated a few hours earlier to prepare for Discovery's reentry today. Knowing how far above they were, how fast they were moving but yet so easy to see...
There's a motif about a big picture I want to convey, but rather than be presumptuous I'll just say for me it was a beautiful and powerful sight.
