I just finished Stephen Baxter's Moonseed. Most of his books involve some sort of conspiracy involving a super advanced civilization reaching back through time to "fix" the universe. This one was before he hit that stride apparently, because it only involves a super advanced technology coming to earth on one of the Apollo moon rocks. Of course it soon begins eating away at the mantle of the Earth, opening up dormant volcanoes everywhere.

If you like to read about destruction, drama, and theoretical physics on a global scale, this book is for you.
